Early 19th Century Country French Provincial Oak Coffer Trunk

Early 19th-century French Provincial oak coffer from Provence, traditionally used for storing linens and household goods. This hand-crafted trunk features a rectangular lift-top lid with its original forged iron strap hinges, opening to a spacious interior. The piece is constructed in solid oak with exposed peg joinery and rests on shaped legs with chamfered edges, showcasing classic rural French craftsmanship. The coffer has been structurally revised for stability while preserving its authentic character. The oak displays a beautifully aged, warm patina with rich grain movement and rustic wear, enhancing its antique charm. Sturdy and versatile, it may serve as a storage chest, blanket trunk, or adapt as a unique coffee table or end-of-bed piece.
