A Late 18th century French Provincial oak petrin, or dough bin table, sourced in Provence, France. Originally made as a functional household piece for preparing and storing bread dough, the table retains its deep trough-form body and removable plank top. The substantial base is constructed with block-and-turned legs joined by a long central stretcher and turned cross stretchers. Above, the deep oak trough features rounded ends and hand-forged iron straps, while the removable top is constructed from wide planks with a molded edge. The oak has developed a rich, deep brown patina through generations of use, with pronounced grain, surface variation, old marks, and wear throughout. The top in particular retains a beautifully worn surface reflecting the piece’s original utilitarian function. Structurally revised to ensure the table is solid and stable, then cleaned and waxed while preserving its aged surface and patina. The removable top provides access to the original spacious interior compartment.
