A refined set of six late 19th century French Louis XVI style side chairs with a pair of matching fauteuils, sourced in Lyon, France. Originally conceived as salon seating, the set reflects the enduring neoclassical vocabulary of the Louis XVI revival, designed for comfort and elegance rather than strictly formal dining. Each chair features an oval medallion back within a molded frame, raised on fluted, tapering legs. The seat rails are shaped and subtly curved, with carved rosette blocks at the corners and restrained ribbon and foliate detailing along the apron. The fauteuils mirror the same design, with gently scrolled arms and upholstered supports, creating a cohesive and balanced suite across all eight pieces. Crafted in the tradition of 18th century French models, the frames show pegged and doweled construction throughout, consistent with quality workshop production. The walnut has developed a warm, naturally aged patina with tonal variation and depth, enhancing the carved details without appearing overly polished. The upholstery is a standout feature, executed in a finely worked needlepoint textile with a floral and foliate motif arranged within oval reserves. The composition closely follows the shape of the medallion backs, creating a strong visual dialogue between frame and textile.
