Late 19th Century French Henry II Carved Oak Writing Table
Handsome late 19th century French oak writing desk in the Henry II style, sourced in Provence, France. Crafted in solid oak, the table features a rectangular paneled top with a hand-carved border above two drawers decorated with scrolling foliate motifs and distinctive carved hand-form pulls. Carved floral details separate and flank the drawers. The table is raised on four barley-twist legs joined by an elaborate H-form stretcher with additional barley-twist and turned elements. Paneled sides and richly figured oak complete the design. The table has been structurally restored, leaving it solid and stable, and the wood has been cleaned and polished with wax. Minor wear and imperfections remain consistent with age and use. With its compact proportions, this versatile piece works beautifully as a writing desk, side table, or console table.
