An early 19th-century French Empire cabinet sourced in Provence, France. The piece has undergone structural revision and waxing in our restoration workshop, preserving its warm patina and the character of the original wood. The cabinet features a restrained architectural design characteristic of the French Empire period, with a rectangular plank top, two beautifully figured paneled doors, rounded columns at the front corners, and squared block feet. The walnut displays rich honey and amber tones, with distinctive grain patterns across the door panels. Traditional construction details include wooden dowels and pegs, mortise-and-tenon joinery, and dovetailed drawers, reflecting the craftsmanship of the period. Behind the two doors, the interior is lined in a decorative red and cream striped fabric and fitted with a shelf and two small drawers. A full-width lower drawer provides additional storage and is finished with decorative brass pulls. The cabinet retains its ornamental brass key escutcheon and is accompanied by a later replacement key, which engages the lock but requires some manipulation to operate. With its balanced proportions, generous storage, and understated Empire detailing, this cabinet would work beautifully in a dining room, living room, or entryway, offering both practical storage and a distinctive antique presence. The cabinet is in good antique condition, with age-related wear, surface marks, minor separations, and variations in the wood consistent with its history.
