Set of Six Early 20th Century French Empire Mahogany Gondola Dining Chairs
A refined set of six French Empire-style dining chairs dating to the early 20th century and sourced from Provence, France. Hand-crafted in solid mahogany, the chairs display the classic gondola form, with a gently curved back that sweeps into shaped arms and rests on elegant tapering legs, including subtly splayed rear sabre legs. The design reflects the clean neoclassical restraint associated with the Empire period while maintaining a warm, inviting presence. Each frame has been professionally structurally reinforced in our workshop to ensure solidity and everyday usability, then carefully polished to bring out the richness and depth of the mahogany. The seats have been newly upholstered in a natural Belgian basket-weave linen treated with a stain-resistant finish, offering both durability and a refined tactile quality. An olive-tone gimp trim outlines the seats, providing a tailored accent that harmonizes with the wood’s warm coloration. Graceful yet sturdy, these chairs are well suited for daily dining use as well as formal interiors, libraries, or accent placement in traditional and transitional spaces. The wood retains a handsome, time-softened patina with minor surface wear appropriate to age. Presented in very good restored condition.
