Handsome late 19th-century French walnut writing table or side table in the Louis XIII style, sourced in Provence, France. The table features a rectangular paneled top above two spacious drawers, each decorated with deeply carved geometric motifs characteristic of the period. The base is particularly decorative, with four substantial barley-twist legs joined by a shaped stretcher framework and a central twisted stretcher. Carved diamond details and turned finials continue throughout the base, giving the table a strong architectural presence from every angle. The sides of the apron are also fully carved, making the piece especially attractive when placed away from a wall. The two drawers provide useful storage and retain their decorative key. With its compact proportions and finished detailing on all four sides, the piece works equally well as a writing desk, library table, center table, or substantial side table. Structurally restored and finished with wax to preserve the warmth and character of the walnut. Age-related cracks and separations remain visible to the top, consistent with the table’s age and construction.
