Antique French Provincial Walnut Dining Chairs with Rush Seats - Set of 8
A set of eight provincial dining chairs sourced in Provence, France. The silhouettes remain light and open with gently curved backs and shaped seat rails that keep the forms visually balanced around a table. Crafted from solid walnut showing natural figuring and a warm honey-brown tone developed through age and waxing. The frames feature restrained carving and connecting stretchers whose proportions are reminiscent of Louis XIII forms, interpreted through regional workmanship rather than formal decoration. The original woven rush seats introduce texture and contrast against the walnut. Each has been preserved and shellacked to strengthen the fibers while maintaining its natural appearance. All chairs have been structurally revised in our workshop and carefully waxed to stabilize the frames and preserve the patina.
