A refined early 20th century French Louis XVI style writing desk sourced in Paris and crafted in mahogany, expressing the clarity and symmetry associated with neoclassical design. The rectangular top is inset with its original warm cognac-toned gilt-tooled leather writing surface, bordered by a continuous tooling and centered by a classical cartouche, showing gentle wear consistent with age and use. The frieze is fitted with three drawers to the front and pull-out writing slides on both sides, allowing the working surface to expand when needed. Each drawer is framed by subtle brass beading and fitted with decorative escutcheons and key pulls. The desk stands on tapering fluted legs terminating in brass sabots, with rounded corner blocks echoing late eighteenth century architectural forms. The piece has been structurally restored in our workshop. Joints have been secured, drawers aligned, and surfaces carefully cleaned and waxed to revive depth of tone while preserving the natural patina. The leather top remains original and retains its character. Elegant in proportion and practical in scale, the desk works well as a writing desk, console, study table or powder room table within both traditional and contemporary interiors.
