19th Century French Napoleon III Armchairs W/ Golden Ochre Mohair - A Pair
A refined pair of 19th-century French Napoleon III crapaud armchairs, sourced in Paris. Each chair is handcrafted with a solid wood frame and features the classic low, enveloping crapaud form with a rounded upholstered back, softly rolled arms, and deep, comfortable seating. Upholstered in a warm golden-ochre mohair, the chairs display a dense cut-pile texture with natural tonal variation and a rich surface patina developed over time. Finished with tailored piping and discreet hand stitching. The bases are finished with full bullion fringe skirts with decorative tassels, concealing the turned legs and adding a richly textured decorative element characteristic of Second Empire seating. The pair was structurally revised, showing age-appropriate wear to the mohair and fringe consistent with 19th-century use. A classic and versatile set, ideal for a bedroom, salon, or intimate seating area.
