19th Century French Louis Philippe Walnut Chest of Drawers W/ Carrara Marble
A handsome French Louis Philippe chest of drawers, mid-19th century, sourced in Paris. Crafted in solid walnut, the piece exemplifies the restrained elegance and architectural clarity characteristic of Louis Philippe–period cabinetry, favoring proportion, material quality, and everyday functionality over ornamentation. The chest features three full drawers and a discreet concealed upper drawer integrated beneath the marble top, a desirable and period-correct detail often used for private storage. All drawers retain their original lock escutcheons, with one original working key included. Drawer construction reflects traditional craftsmanship, with hand-cut dovetail joinery and solid wood interiors. The piece has been structurally revised to ensure excellent stability and daily usability. The walnut surface has been carefully cleaned and polished, preserving its natural patina, warm tone, and age-related character rather than over-restoring the finish. The chest is topped with a later, period-appropriate white Carrara marble slab, displaying subtle grey veining and age-appropriate wear. The marble sits neatly atop the case, though slightly shallower in depth than the original slab would have been, complementing the clean lines of the walnut case. A refined and versatile antique, well-suited for a bedroom, entryway, or living space, and equally at home in both classic and contemporary interiors.
