The Antique Country French Provincial Farmhouse Walnut Dough Baking Kitchen Table is a remarkable piece with a rich history. Dating back to the 19th century, this country French farmhouse table was originally used as a dough bin or petrin in Provence, France. Meticulously handcrafted from solid walnut, it boasts a 4.3 feet long rectangular plank top with breadboard ends, showcasing the expertise of tenon and mortise joints. The spacious plank top opens to reveal a large storage bin, which was traditionally used for mixing bread dough before it was removed and kneaded on the tabletop. This versatile table also served as an ironing surface in its lifetime. The top exhibits a naturally distressed, aged, and faded patina that adds to its character, highlighting the beautiful walnut grains and warm brown color of the wood. Supported by hand-carved tapered legs with exposed wooden dowels, this table stands solid and stable. With excellent joinery and craftsmanship, it exemplifies a Traditional French provincial profile, making it a remarkable piece that pays homage to the traditions and craftsmanship of old France.
