The 19th Century Country French Provincial Farmhouse Walnut Dough Baking Kitchen Table is a remarkable piece curated from Provence, France. This mid-19th-century dough bin or petrin table embodies the beauty of country French provincial farmhouse craftsmanship. Handcrafted from solid walnut, it features a 5.2 feet long rectangular plank top with breadboard ends, skillfully constructed using tenon and mortise joints. The table boasts a large 1" thick plank top that slides, revealing a spacious storage bin meticulously constructed with dovetails. This storage bin was historically used for making bread dough, which would then be removed and kneaded on the tabletop. The versatile top was also utilized for ironing clothes. The top showcases a naturally aged patina with lovely brown color and rich grains brimming with character. Over time, the top has acquired a natural warp due to its age and use. The table stands on hand-carved turned provincial legs, elegantly raised on bun feet. With excellent joinery and a distressed patina, this table serves as an ideal kitchen table or display table. It is in good condition, with minor wear consistent with age and use, showcasing excellent joinery, craftsmanship, and age-appropriate features such as an aged rustic patina on the finish and natural age splits in the wood. To maintain balance, a wooden block has been installed.
