An exquisite set of 6 French Louis XVI dining chairs hand-crafted from solid mahogany. The chairs were made by a designer called Auguste Metgé (1883- 1970) in the 40s. Auguste Metgé is a well-known cabinet maker and sculptor from Sorèze, France. Each chair has a signature under the seats. The chairs feature a hand-molded frame with an oval-shaped medallion with a naturally aged patina. The seats and backs of the chairs are upholstered with hand-weaved cane conjoined to the seat frame with small wooden pegs. The seats are supported by elegant tapered, fluted legs ending with toupie feet typical for Louis XVI chairs. The front legs are also decorated with carved rosettes on the corners. Excellent joinery and craftsmanship with a classic French silhouette. Magnifique!
