Monumental 18th-century country French farmhouse dough bin or petrin table from Provence, France. Entirely handcrafted from solid walnut featuring 6.3 feet long rectangular plank top with rounded corners and tenon and mortise joinery. The large plank top opens to reveal a large storage bin. The French knew plenty about cooking with style even in the old days. This type of table was used to store the bread dough in the petrin for rising, then removed and kneaded on top. The top was also used to iron clothes. Some bakers in old Frace still use the same type of dough tables to make bread. The table is supported by a heavy stand with a decorative shaped apron and thick legs plus one extension on the left side. Excellent joinery with a distressed patina from an estate in Marseille, France. Makes a great kitchen table or display table.
- Origin: Marseille, France
